Feng Shi received her Master’s degree from Jiangsu Normal University (JSNU) in 2004 and subsequently served as a lecturer there. After completing her Ph.D. at Soochow University in 2013, which included a six-month visiting scholarship at Nanyang Technological University, she began her independent research career at JSNU. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 2010 and to Full Professor in 2015.
She has been awarded several prestigious talent grants, including the Jiangsu Provincial Outstanding Youth Foundation (2016) and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Distinguished Young Scholars Fund (2021).
Her research focuses on chiral indole chemistry, where she has designed and developed novel indole-based platform molecules and their catalytic asymmetric reactions, providing precise, efficient, and highly selective synthetic methods for chiral indole compounds. As a corresponding author, she has published over 140 scientific papers in renowned journals such as Acc. Chem. Res., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Nat. Commun. and Sci. China Chem. She also holds more than 10 authorized invention patents.
She has been recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher by Elsevier (2020–2024) and a Global Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate in 2024. Among her awards are the Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Award, the Ministry of Education Natural Science Award, the Thieme Chemistry Journal Award, and the Asian Core Program Lectureship Award.
She serves as an editorial board member for Chin. J. Org. Chem. and Acta Chim. Sinica, a member of the Presidium of the Editorial Board of Eur. J. Org. Chem., and an international editorial board member for Org. Chem. Front., J. Org. Chem., Synthesis, and Tetrahedron Chem.
